Former President honoured in Tipperary

The former president of Ireland Mary McAleese and her husband Senator Martin McAleese were honoured twice in Tipperary yesterday when they were presented with the Tipperary International Peace Award and a civic reception from Tipperary Town Council.

Both recipients were chosen for the peace award due to their involvement in creating a successful peace process.

During yesterday’s proceedings Professor McAleese and Senator McAleese were described as peacemakers that are invaluable to the country.

The International Peace Award cermony which took place in Balykisteen yesterday marked the beginning of the International Peace Convention which continues today, and also heralds the beginning of a festival marking 100 years since the writing of the song “It’s a long way to Tipperary”  Festivities will go on in Tipperary until July 15th.
