A man is being detained at Tipperary town garda station after another man was seriously injured during an assault in Cappawhite last night.
The incident happened on Church St at around 12.30am. A man in his 50s was seriously injured and was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital. He was later transferred to Cork University Hospital.
It is believed a weapon was used in the assault.
A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested.
The Church St area is currently sealed off for examination.
Cappawhite National School was also closed for the day.
