Kickham Barracks Sale Offer

The Department of Defence has offered South Tipperary County Council the option of purchasing Kickham Army Barracks ahead of a public disposal process.

The department recently confirmed that it will close the Clonmel barracks as part of the government’s cost-saving measures.

In making the offer, the department has said that it is taking account of the possible benefit to communities of such a property, citing a particular emphasis on job creation.

Should the purchase be considered, any sale would be subject to market conditions and commercial valuations in accordance with government policies.

The matter is due to be discussed at today’s meeting of South Tipperary County Council.

The barracks is due to be vacated by the end of March 2012.
