A meeting is to be held in North Tipperary in relation to a proposal by Dublin City Council to supplement its water supply with water from Lough Derg.

Representatives of Dublin City Council met with North Tipperary representatives on Monday to discuss the issue.

However, speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning, Cllr Séamus Morris (SF) said that the Dublin delegation had nothing to offer North Tipperary in return for the supply, nor were there any assurances given in relation to the possible privatisation of the water taken or the ecological impact resulting from sharing the supply.

He said the matter needs further discussion and a meeting with organisations such as the Shannon Protection Alliance will take place at the Derg Inn next Wednesday.

He has also called for North Tipperary County Council to carry out an independent assessment of the proposals.
