Management at the Tipperary Excel Centre are now targeting early May as the date for the restoration of Cinema Services. The cinema ceased operations on June 15th  2023 and is yet to complete equipment upgrades to resume screenings.

It is understood that a scoping exercise has been completed and the necessary replacement equipment has been ordered and an 80% deposit has been paid. Once the equipment arrives and is installed it is expected that a period of staff training will be required.

In the meantime, fundraising efforts are ongoing – the Excel runs a weekly Lotto to raise funds and the current jackpot is a healthy €8,500 for the next draw on Tuesday April 2nd. Corporate sponsorship has also been sought from business interests in and connected to Tipperary town.

In addition, a Climb of Galteemore is planned for June 15th. Those participating and others supporting in spirit can obtain a sponsorship card for the event which is being led by Larry Creamer and a group of walking enthusiasts.

The group are holding weekly training walks in advance of June 15th and the 3rd training walk takes place on Easter Monday at Darragh Hill Loop with the meeting point for those taking part set for Darragh Bridge at 12 noon on Monday. Darragh, County Limerick is approximately 35 minutes drive from Tipperary town and the looped walk is a 10 km trail beginning at Darragh Bridge with an inbuilt shorter loop walk called the Castlegale walk. Further information is available on the dedicated Facebook page – Climb Galteemore for Excel.  All are welcome to attend on Monday for the exercise and social benefits according to the organisers.
