Members of the fire services were called to an incident in the Glen of Aherlow yesterday evening when a number of people had to be evacuated from a tourist bus that caught fire.
The bus was carrying tourists and had travelled to the scenic area from Cork. According to Gardai, the bus caught fire due to a mechanical fault close to the Christ the King statue.
All of those on board were evacuated safely and nobody was injured. While tackling the blaze, emergency personnel from Tipperary Town and Cahir stations had to make sure that the fire did not spread to the nearby forest, due to the very dry conditions that are being experienced as the ongoing dry spell continues.
The fire was eventually brought under control but the bus was completely destroyed by the blaze.
