Independent TD Michael Lowry has told Tipperary Mid West Radio that following the conclusion this week of the court case against him on taxation charges, he can put many of the events of the last 22 years behind him.

Deputy Lowry was talking to Morning Call after he was fined €15,000 and his company Garuda, fined €10,000.

The Tipperary TD’s sentence has been criticised by some in the Dail and in the media as being too lenient. However, this morning he said that he is ‘not a bad person’, even though he knows recent events and commentary may have tarnished the way he is seen by some.

However, he added that he will have to live with that knowledge, but continues to maintain that he was targeted.

He has also reserved special criticism for the manner in which Revenue officers searched his home ahead of the trial.
