The Excel Centre Cinema Reopens Today

The Cinema in the Excel Centre is to re-open on Friday after being closed since June 15th 2023.

The Excel Centre continues to face financial challenges as the heating system needs renewal and there are also plans to upgrade the sound and lighting systems in the Simon Ryan Theatre.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing and the investment in the new projectors means a resumption of cinema in Tipperary town.  The Excel Centre also hopes to return the Kids Club, Sensory screenings and Film Club in the near future.

The focus now turns to funding to install a new boiler for the heating system before the lower Winter temperatures arrive.  A major fundraising effort will come to fruition on June 15th when a sponsored climb of Galteemore takes place. A focused group of people are accepting sponsorship for this walk right up to June 15th and beyond. The group have been undertaking two long walks per week to build momentum for the big event led by Larry Creamer and Patricia Browne O’Brien.

Management at the Excel are also seeking suggestions as to how the guest experience can be improved at the Excel – these ideas can be emailed to [email protected] or shared with staff at reception.

The cinema will  resume on Friday evening with 3 movie choices with screenings to follow on Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Matinees on Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoon. This week’s selections include Furiosa, Bad Boys and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes for adults while the younger audiences can select from Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban,   If or Garfield the Movie.

Audiences are reminded that the theatre may be chilly as there is no heating at present.

A special low ticket price is available for all movies during the month of June.
