The Garda Community Engagement team is to visit 6 locations next week according to Sergeant Ray Moloney. The Garda vehicle offers an opportunity for Garda to engage with members of the public of all ages.

In addition, between Sunday May 26th and Friday May 31st the property marking service is available at the locations to be visited. At today’s session in Knockanrawley, Tipperary town items such as lawnmowers, strimmers and honey extractors were brought by members of the public for the free marking service. Garda use a special device to mark the property with the owners Eircode, this can also be altered by the machine and covered with a series of “X” marks if the property is sold.

Garda are also offering information to homeowners to assist in dealing with Bogus Callers. Garda can provide sheets, each with 6 cards, to be given to callers offering work or services. Garda advise not to open the door or to use a door chain if possible to give the caller the card and ask them to put their contact details on the card for future use if so desired. The Garda logo is on the other side of the card. Sergeant Moloney says the card helps homeowners to avoid engaging someone they really don’t want to hire or having work done without getting a number of quotations.

Children are also catered for with Garda giving children a colouring book and a Safe Cross Code Activity book. Children from Tiobraid Arann Gaelscoil visited today to meet Garda Moloney and to examine the interior of the van – all intended to build a positive relationship.

Upcoming locations are – Rahealty NS on Sunday May 26th, Ballynonty village Monday, Moyne GAA Club Tuesday,  Dundrum Kickhams GAA grounds  on Wednesday  May 29th, Lattin GAA club grounds Thursday and in Borrisoleigh GAA field on Friday May 31st.  All of the events run from 3pm until 7pm except Lattin GAA ground on May 30th which begins at 4pm and runs until 7.30pm.
