The latest report from property listings website Daft.ie shows that on average national advertised rents rose by 0.6% between January and the end of March.

The average rent sought in the first quarter was €1,836 per month, an increase of 4.9% on the same period last year.

In Tipperary, market rents were on average 6.4% higher in the first three months of 2024 than a year previously – considerably higher than the national average rate of increase for the period. The average advertised rent in Tipperary county is now €1,292.

According to the author of the report, Professor Ronan Lyons, the overall national decline in the rate of increase in rents is caused by more multi-unit homes coming onto the market especially in Dublin. The website had just over 2,000 homes to rent nationwide as of May 1st 2024 , effectively unchanged on the same date a year previously and well below the average of almost 4,400 available homes nationwide on this particular platform in the 2015 to 2019 period.
