Tipperary Town Darkness Into Light Fundraising Walk Committee Will Remain As Organisers

738

The organisers of the Tipperary town Darkness into Light fundraising walk in aid of Pieta House have had a change of heart about stepping down from the role.  Roisin Kiely and Denis Pollard – the two-person committee responsible for organising the event since 2020 say that they received messages of support and pleas for them to continue as organisers. They now say they will continue their involvement if the committee can be expanded. Anyone interested in joining the committee is asked to message the Darkness into light Tipperary Town Facebook page.

This year’s event is on May 11th beginning at 4.15am – the committee would also appreciate some volunteers for the event to help in the Sean Treacy Club house with refreshments and also on the route as stewards.

In addition to raising funds the walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community and to bring hope to people who have been impacted by suicide. People can register online or at a registration day to be held in Tipperary Credit Union on May 8th.   Pieta house offers a 24/7 crisis helpline on 1800 247 247, or those seeking support can text the word help to 51444. In addition, Pieta House offers free counseling and bereavement support services.

Darkness into Light Walks in support of Pieta House are also planned for Carrick on Suir, Clonmel, Thurles, Nenagh, Roscrea and Killaloe/Ballina with all walks stepping off at 4.15am. Full details can be found at this link here.In Cahir, the local Meet and Train Group and Cahir Tidy Towns are hosting a Dawn Walk at 5am on May 11th with registration at the Tourist office at 4.45am. Donations will go towards a local youth focused fitness, health and wellbeing project to be delivered later this year.
