The Office of Public Works is confirming that certain heritage sites across Ireland including four in County Tipperary will open for free visits on the first Wednesday of the month with most seasonal sites reopening from 16 March 2024. The new season offers a great opportunity for visitors to rediscover the rich and diverse cultural heritage of their local areas. The four Tipperary locations with Free Admission on the first Wednesday of each month are Cahir Castle, the Swiss Cottage also in Cahir, Ormond Castle in Carrick on Suir and Roscrea Castle incorporating Damer House and Black Mills.
The Office of Public Works says Heritage sites are an important part of our national identity and our shared history, and they offer a unique insight into the lives and stories of our ancestors. Whether you are interested in ancient monuments, historic houses, gardens, or museums, there is something for everyone to explore and appreciate.
In its “Jewels of History” campaign, the OPW is highlighting the “Free Wednesday” initiative where certain sites offer free admission to individual visitors and families. Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and online booking will not be available. Normal conditions of admission apply. Participating sites include Rathfarnham Castle, Trim Castle, Glendalough and many others- a full list is available at https://heritageireland.ie/visit/free-wednesday/
