County Tipperary voted No to both of the proposed amendments to the Constitution  in Friday’s Referendums.  On the 39th  Amendment relating to the Family Tipperary voted  Yes 26.7% and No 73.3%. Nationally the vote was Yes 32.31% and No 67.69%.  The Tipperary voter turnout was 44.23% while the national turnout to vote on Friday was 44.36%.
In the second vote on the Care Amendment  Tipperary voted Yes 26.07%  and No 73.93%  Nationally the vote was Yes 22.55% and No 77.45%.
The  Taoiseach Leo Varadkar attended the National Count Centre at Dublin Castle on Saturday and says these issues are for the next Government to consider – seeming to rule out any rerun of the issues with different wording.  It is thought that Care advocates and organsiations working in the sector  may continue with the momentum of their public support to  work for a greater level of support from the State  for the provision  of care in all its forms.

The Government  is to investigate how the Attorney General’s legal advice to the government on the Referendum was leaked and published by the On The Ditch media website on Thursday.  As the Dáil is not sitting again until March 20th there will be no Dáil discussion on the outcome this week. Most Ministers are travelling abroad for St Patrick’s Day events.
