Dr Willie Nolan’s Two Volume Book Remember ’48 Wins Tipperariana Book Of The Year Award

Dr Willie Nolan’s two volume book Remember ’48 is the winner of the Tipperariana Book of the year Award. The Award is presented annually by the Fethard Historical Society for the best Tipperary book published each year.

Dr. Nolan, an esteemed historian and former Associate Professor of Geography at University College Dublin grew up in Ballingarry, a central location of the 1848 Rebellion. The two volume book represents 40 years of research and analysis and deals with the events leading up to the 1848 Rising and the lives of key figures following the rebellion.

Dr. Nolan was presented with a miniature ceramic replica of the Widow McCormack’s cottage in Ballingarry, a central location of the Young Irelanders rebellion in July 1848. The award was created by local ceramicist Dóirín Saurus who is commissioned annually to devise a ceramic representation of the Award winning book.
