Increase Of Patients Presenting At Tipperary University Hospital Emergency Department

617

The Emergency Department (ED) at Tipperary University Hospital (TippUH) is currently experiencing increased presentations which has increased the waiting time to be seen and the demand for inpatient beds. Hospital management say the patients presenting include an increasing number who require complex care.

Management at the hospital is asking members of the public to only attend in the case of a genuine emergency, advising that, where possible, a pharmacy,  a GP or Caredoc out of hours service be consulted in the first instance. Cashel Minor Injury unit is also open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. This provides a service for children over 3 years of age and adults.  The contact number is 062 70409.

Tipperary University Hospital is asking people to think about all their care and treatment options and enable  ED services to be available for  the patients who need them most.

Any member of the  public that is seriously injured or ill or is worried that their life is at risk is urged to attend the ED and management offers reassurance that the ED staff will assess and treat such patients as a priority.

Staff and management are working to prioritise the discharge of patients as soon as possible where appropriate to ease the overcrowding. As of 8am this morning the INMO reported 12 patients on trolleys at the hospital.
