Independent Councillor Seamus Morris in Nenagh is calling for a Mural of Shane MacGowan to be created in Nenagh. The Councillor has put forward the suggestion in a motion to the December meeting of Nenagh MD Council.  The motion asks that the genius of Shane McGowan and his huge connection with Nenagh be recognised by the Municipal District with a mural of Shane MacGowan to be installed in the Emmet Place car park.

Mr MacGowan, the lead singer and songwriter with the Pogues died on November 30th and his Funeral Mass is to be held in Nenagh on Friday December 8th at 3.30pm to be followed by a private cremation. Earlier on Friday in Dublin, a funeral procession is to be held led by the Artane band and a piper.   Beginning in the south inner city, the singer’s coffin will be taken by horse-drawn carriage between Ringsend and Pearse Street from 10.30am to 11.45am. Mr MacGowan lived in Ballsbridge with his wife Victoria Mary Clarke.
