Cappwhite Community In Mourning Following Sudden Death Of Popular Priest

The community of Cappawhite is in mourning today following the sudden death overnight of Fr Tadgh Furlong.

The popular priest failed to arrive at the Church to celebrate Mass this morning leading some parishioners to visit his home.

The much loved priest was discovered deceased. Cllr Mary Hanna Hourigan says the community is devastated by the news.

Fr Furlong, a native of Annacarthy was deeply involved in the Community Council and local school board of management. 

Due to his interest in the Irish language he was often referred as an tAthair Tadgh.

He was ordained in 1976.Fr Furlong’s brother Tom is the sacristan at St Michael’s Church in Tipperary town.

It is understood that Fr Furlong was due to celebrate his 74th birthday later this week.

Councillor Hourigan says there is a real sense of shock at the news of Fr Furlong’s death and says he will be greatly missed.
