50th Anniversary Of The Resumption Of Religious Services At Holy Cross Abbey To Be Marked

Plans to mark the 50th anniversary of the resumption of Religious Services at Holy Cross Abbey are being prepared.

A Public Meeting will be held in Holy Cross Abbey on Wednesday, October 11 at 8pm to discuss the possible events that will take place on October 5th 2025.

The event will mark both the restoration and the re-opening of Holy Cross Abbey.

Following centuries in a ruinous state the Abbey was restored 1970 to 1975. An act of the Dáil had to be passed in 1969 to allow for this. The official opening on October 5th was a truly national occasion and was marked by the issue of a special postal stamp.

The idea for the restoration was embraced by local people after an official in the Office of Public works suggested putting a roof on the building after being approached for assistance in preventing arches on the south side of the Abbey from collapsing.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend the public meeting to be held in the Abbey on October 11th at 8pm.
