The number of people in homeless accommodation provided by the State as of the end of August is 12,691. These people are now living in state funded or provided emergency accommodation because they presented as homeless at their local council housing department.

County Tipperary reports 39 people in emergency accommodation –  this is down 2 from a total of 41 persons in July.  County Limerick reports 331 people in emergency accommodation in August. This is a reduction of one compared to the 332 people in emergency accommodation in Limerick in July. The figures do not include people who may be sleeping rough, in tents or cars or living in overcrowded or insecure accommodation.

The total of 12,691 in emergency accommodation is made up of 8,796 adults and 3,895 children.  The August figure for children in homeless accommodation is 66 higher than July’s total.

The Department of Housing says the overall total is down by 156 compared to July as the Dublin Region Homeless Executive corrected previous data by reducing the total for single adults in emergency accommodation in August by 308 persons. This reduction is due to the correction of past data and not a significant change in presentations and/or exits to tenancy.
