A major concert planned for the Cathedral in Thurles on Friday September 29th in aid of a new roof has been cancelled. The planned performance by “The Priests” – three members of the clergy from the Diocese of Down and Connor – had to be cancelled due to illness.

Refunds are available through the Parish Office, Thurles by telephoning 0504 22229. The office will process the refund as quickly as possible and apologises for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

The event had been highly anticipated as the group gave a wonderful performance at the same venue in 2019.

The Very Reverend Eugene O’Hagan, alongside his singing brother Fr Martin O’Hagan and their friend, Fr David Delargy, performed for Pope Francis during his visit to Dublin for the World Meeting of Families. The priests have shared the stage with two Popes (Pope Francis and Pope Benedict) and have performed for the likes of Prince Charles and other notable personalities. Since meeting in the 1970s at St MacNissi’s college trio have developed a reputation for wonderful live performances and have recorded several albums that have been best sellers for SonyBMG.

The roof in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles has shown signs of deterioration in recent times  and substantial investment is now required to maintain the integrity of the building. A number of events have already been held to create a fund for the works including the ongoing weekly “Raise the Roof Lotto”.
