41 Events Planned Across Tipperary As Part Of Culture Night

Venues and public spaces across the country will be hosting thousands of free events centred on the arts, heritage and culture this evening, as the 18th edition of Culture Night takes place. 41 events are planned across county Tipperary – full details  can be found on the website culturenight.ie at this link here.

A musical duo will perform at Tipperary Library at 4pm- Michael John Ryan, violin and Livia Hyland Cellist. Tipperary Excel Centre is hosting a film about the 3 local landscape features at the at 7.30pm – Lattin, Toureen and Kilfeacle feature with narration by Dr Des Marnane. This is followed at 8pm by Club Ceol with dancers from the Brigid Whelan School of Dance.

Meanwhile the Moorehaven Centre on O’Brien street is the venue for a major collaboration between Creative Places Tipperary town and South Tipperary Irish Wheelchair Association – public are invited to a visual arts workshop at 5.30pm leading to the performance of specially written song at 7.30pm.

Artist Mags Rudnicka and Musician Andy Spearpoint  are the artistic animators for the project to which everyone is welcome.

Groovy Drum Hands are delivering two drumming workshops in the Tippeary town library between 6 and 8pm

Tipperary native Mary Clancy will deliver a reading followed by a question and answer session in Tipperary Library at 8pm featuring her latest book ‘The Pretend Daughters’.

The 6’s and 7’s gallery on Davis Street, Tipperary Town will feature an exhibition of art by Gerry Carew and  offer the chance to create art in two workshops on acrylic pouring at 7.30pm and 9pm.

Charlie McGettigan is performing in Cashel Library at 7.30pm – 9.30pm.

Meitheal 21 in Thurles will screen the Oscar winning film An Irish Goodbye, while the Source offers a night of “Tipperary Films” and a painting workshop. Mary Immaculate College in Thurles features tours, talks and  Irish Language classes.

Across the county there are exhibitions, films, music, painting, virtual reality gaming, poetry and a very interesting arts project about the textiles era in Carrick on Suir with the German clothing company Schiesser. The company operated in the town between 1971 – 1996. Tonight’s event features two components – a performing arts piece by writer/actor Mary McGrath and actor Paula O’Dwyer who both worked in Schiesser and a mixed media exhibition. Two performances are planned 6.30pm and 7.30pm at the Sean Healy memorial Library Carrick on Suir.

The annual event, which is directed by the Arts Council and run in partnership with Tipperary county council and cultural organisations, is the biggest collective celebration of culture in Ireland.
