Major Success For Two Former Abbey School Students At EU Young Scientists Contest

Two former Abbey School Students have claimed 2nd place at the EU Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS).

This is the 34th edition of the EUCYS which has been held in Brussels this week.

Shane O’Connor and Liam Carew won the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition competition in January for their research into the impact school experiences have on young people.

As part of their prize they represented Ireland in London in July at a Science Experience event that was more about exposure and networking than competition.

For the EUCYS the two young men who completed their Leaving Certificate Examinations in June had to review their Project Report, prepare a new Poster Abstract and prepare for questions from a new round of judges.

Head of BTYSE Mari Cahalane says Shane and Liam are fab young men who represented Ireland so well in Brussels and she wished them best of luck next week as they both start at UCC.
