Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath is calling on the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to resign following today’s revelation that the Garda Representative Association (GRA) has overwhelmingly expressed a vote of no confidence in the Commissioner. Almost 99% of rank-and-file members voted “No Confidence” in the Commissioners’ leadership.  Deputy McGrath says that Commissioner Harris’s position has become untenable.

Rural Independent leader Deputy Mattie McGrath, also called earlier this year for Commissioner Harris  to resign – the TD says neither the Commissioner nor the Minister for Justice has been attentive to the grievances of Garda members especially  in respect of issues concerning public safety and well-being of Gardaí. Deputy McGrath wants the implementation of new rosters planned for November 6th to be halted and priority to be given to deploying Garda to “street-level policing, particularly in areas facing staffing shortages.”
