The opening of the new modular unit at South Tipperary General Hospital is in sight.

It is now being claimed by Deputy Michael Lowry that the first 20 beds at the unit are due to open on Tuesday, January 14th, with the remaining 20 beds due to be opened by mid-March.

The development is likely to come as some good news to patients and staff alike, as the hospital is one of the most under-pressure in the country according to recent INMO figures.

In terms of staffing, 33 nurses have been recruited. 18 of those have already secured accreditation to work at the hospital, while the remaining 15 are currently in the process of qualifying for accredited status and are due to complete that process by the end of December.

According to Deputy Lowry, doctors have been recruited and will commence work in January, while physiotherapy, medical scientist and clinical engineer posts have been offered.
