Excel Cinema Remains Closed This Week As Upgrade Works Continue

The cinema at the Tipperary Excel centre remains closed this week as work to upgrade the equipment used in the cinema is not completed.  On June 15th the Board of Directors issued a statement that indicated the service would resume by the end of June. The Centre Manager, Ms Mary Leahy now says work to source new equipment and suppliers is taking longer than the board anticipated.

In recent months the patrons have had some poor experiences with films failing to start or “freezing” during the screening.  There were also problems with the heating system in the building over the last Winter and Spring.

The Board has not released any specific details of the technical upgrades planned or how much it may cost. Falling Cinema attendances and a limited range of events being held at the venue may ultimately have financial implications as to the options available to the Centre.
The Centre does have rental income from a number of sources such as the Tipperary Library Service, The French Quarter Café, the Creative Places Programme and revenue from telecom companies in respect of routers located on the rooftop.  The Tipperary Excel  Arts and Cultural Centre also operates a weekly Lotto to raise revenue for the facility’s operating costs. In previous years the Court Service was also a tenant in the building  – this has ended since the pandemic when the Court sitting was relocated to Nenagh Court.
Accounts filed by the Tipperary Excel CLG show that it had trading income in 2021 of €221,550 and income from other sources of €174,009. The total income of €395,559 exceeded expenditure of €393,619 by  €1,940.  At the end of 2021 the company had assets of €3,691,324 and liabilities of €1,817,967.
