Concerns have been expressed about a reduction in Grant aid for the Clonmel Busking Festival.

Council officials says there’s been two fold increase in valid applications for grant aid this year while the overall budget remained unchanged.

The event has been allocated grant of €10,000 by Tipperary Council Festivals and Events Grant Scheme  – it had previously been allocated €15,000.

Eleven festival events have been awarded a total of €72,000 – with the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival allocated €30,000 while the Clonmel Applefest also secured €10,000.

Sums ranging from €500 to €3000 were granted to 8 other events planned for the Clonmel area.

The organisers of the Clonmel busking Festival may have to fundraise an additional €10,000 if the event is to go ahead this year.

Council officials says that if any flexibility arises in the Festival budget they will look at providing additional support.
