Tipperary Chamber Of Commerce says it’s concerned about the impact hotel price gouging in Dublin could impact Ireland’s image abroad and rural tourism.

Chairperson Joe Hayes says that local hotels and B&Bs feel there’s a major divide between Dublin accommodation prices and those on offer in rural Ireland.

Mr Hayes says there’s a fear the government could increase Tourism VAT to counter the Dublin prices but ultimately it would impact the local accommodation sector.

Mr Hayes says another element that needs to be addressed if hotels are being pressured into taking in refugees.

The Chair says he knows of a case of a local family hotel being approached to accommodate those seeking asylum however the business declined the offer.
