The Regional Independent Dáil Group including Deputy Michael Lowry are calling for urgent reforms of the Home Care and Home Help Services.

The waiting list for home support care at the end of March 2023 reached an alarming 6,432 individuals according to Deputy Lowry.

The group says the Government needs to take radical action given the ageing Irish population. Census statistics reveal that nearly 300,000 people currently provide unpaid care, with 86,000 individuals dedicating 43 hours or more per week to caregiving.

The Group is asking for a complete and fully functioning Home Help and Home Care System for elderly people. Deputy Lowry says this will be for the greater good of the person, their family, and the wider health service.
