Concerns are being expressed about the safety of drivers, pedestrians and employees in the area near Junction 8 on the M8 in Cashel.
Garda in Cahir and Cashel are investigating an incident where rocks were thrown at a car damaging the windscreen – this incident occurred on Wednesday. The driver had to exit the M8 via the slip road at Junction 8 in Cashel.
The incident is not an isolated incident as there are reports of pieces of metal being
fired at pedestrians and cars exiting the services area at the busy Motorway Junction. It is thought that some form of slingshot is being used in the attacks. A young man was injured earlier this week after being hit by stones and had to receive hospital treatment for his injuries. It is understood that the incident occurred at approximately 10pm as he walked home from work. Social media comments about the latest incidents reveal that motorcyclists have also been victims of the attack by as of now unknown persons.
Management at McDonalds Restaurant have described the incidents as disgraceful and express the hope that Garda will be able to identify and deal with the culprits. Cahir Garda station can be contacted by calling 052 744 5630.
