The campaign for an improved river crossing in Ardfinnan has suffered a setback according to Tipperary TD Martin Browne. The National Transport Authority has removed Ardfinnan Bridge from the list of projects for their Active Travel Programme allocations for 2023. A proposal for a cantilever bridge or a pedestrian footbridge has been rejected by the NTA.
At present the Bridge has bollards installed to enable pedestrian crossing and traffic flows on one lane only with delays to drivers a daily feature.
Local campaigners have had Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Minister for State at the Department of Transport Jack Chambers to visit the location to view the issues.
Deputy Browne says he will engage further with Tipperary County Council and the NTA to find an alternative way to address the NTA decision.
