Tipperary councillors are to get an update on the ongoing aid to refugees from Ukraine at next week’s plenary meeting. As of the end of March, 1,786 Ukrainians were resident in the county.

Tipperary County Council with the support of other state agencies and voluntary groups has provided a range of support to the refugees.

This support includes 2 temporary rest facilities – one in Littleton and one in Clonmel.

220 Ukrainians have been housed in 31 vacant units and 41 shared units offered to the Red Cross.

188 Ukrainians are housed across Tipperary in 59 properties offered under the Offer a Home Scheme.

A further 12 properties in the process of being assigned.

In addition, 30 commercial operators in the county are accommodating refugees. Housing staff actively support the residents in these facilities to integrate into the broader community.

The Council is also actively engaging with and supporting the Department of Housing to identify appropriate properties which can be refurbished to accommodate refugees.

And finally the Office of Public works expects to have 62 new modular homes completed in June at their own site at Gortataggart, Thurles.
