Gardaí in Limerick are continuing to investigate the murder of 27 year-old Geila Ibram from Romania in cooperation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.   A man has been charged with her murder, on April 4th, and is remanded in custody in Belfast until a further court hearing on May 2nd.  The accused is Habib Shamel aged 26, an Afghan national. The court heard that Mr Shamel arrived in Dublin from Afghanistan in October 2020,  claimed political asylum and had the right to be resident here until next year. The court heard that the victim died as the result of multiple stab wounds in a “vicious and frenzied attack”. It is understood that the accused had sought medical treatment at University Hospital Limerick for a hand injury before travelling to Belfast by bus with a companion. He is due to appear in court again on May 2nd. A formal identification of Ms Ibram’s remains was carried out by family members on Friday, at the Morgue in University Hospital Limerick.  A vigil is to be held today at 5.30pm at Steamboat Quay, Limerick to pay respect to Ms Ibram.
