Sinn Fein Calls For Action To Tackle Vacant Commercial Properties

Sinn Fein TD Martin Browne and Councillor David Dunne are calling on the government to put greater efforts in to tackling vacant commercial properties.

The call comes after a number of windows and doors were damaged by vandalism on Market Place in Clonmel recently.

The party is asking that greater use be made of rates policy to encourage property owners to find a use for the premises.

Since 2014 Sinn Fein have sought changes to the 100% rebate some commercial premises enjoy if they are vacant.

Deputy Browne says properties are vacant and falling into dereliction as a result of the present rates policy.

The party is also calling on Tipperary County Council to make greater use of the Derelict Sites Act, and say a ‘use it or lose it’ policy should be adopted to address property owners who are continuously failing to act on issues like those being witnessed on Market Place in Clonmel.
