Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien today officially marked the opening of 5 new Housing Schemes throughout County Tipperary – the homes are situated in Clonmel, Two-Mile-Borris and Templetuohy, totalling 98 number homes.
The schemes consist of a range of house type and bedroom sizes all of which are constructed in accordance with the principle of Universal Design. The “A” Rated dwellings provide a secure and energy efficient home for life according to Minister O’Brien. The development at Glenconnor Hill, Clonmel was Tipperary County Council’s first major housing development in the county in over 20 years and was awarded a “Community Housing Public Choice Awards” by the Irish Council for Social Housing in 2021.
Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council Roger Kennedy highlighted the Council’s target of delivering 1,125 new social housing units by the end of 2026. Council figures published in January show 3,385 people on the Social housing list, 1,700 people supported on Housing Assistance Payments(HAP) and 1,011 people supported on Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) payments. The social housing list is expected to increase in the county as the income eligibility limits for social housing were increased by €5,000 on January 1st 2023 enabling more people to qualify for social housing.

The Minister also performed the Official Opening of the new Civic Plaza & Public Realm at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel.
