Local campaigners for road safety held a protest event at Barronstown cross (Local Road 8106) on Friday afternoon.

The event was organised by David Moloney. People were invited to attend at 5pm on Friday to view the hazards at a section of the road which links two local roads to the N24 just east of Limerick Junction.

Two councillors from the eleven in the Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD attended – Cllr John Crosse and Cllr Mary Hanna Hourigan.

The organiser says some councillors sent apologies and others did not respond to the invitation.

A local resident from Goatinstown (Local road 8212) Mr Joe Moloney also spoke of his experiences trying to move onto the N24 due to poor sightlines at the junction.

The local group are asking that the council purchase the property at the junction and demolish the boundary wall to improve sightlines for cars moving from Goatinstown.

The council Road Capital Section has committed to undertaking an assessment of the site and to gather data from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the body responsible for the N24, in respect of accidents at the junction.
