Tipp Mid West Radio’s Donnchadh Ó Cinnéide Has Died

1149

Our colleague and friend Donnchadh Ó Cinnéide has died after an illness.

Donnchadh was a truck driver and mechanic by trade but a patriot by nature.

He presented the Comhaltas programme on Tipp Mid West Radio every Monday night and always a memorable programme on Easter Monday to mark the events of Easter 1916.

Donnchadh was deeply involved in the work of Comhaltas in County Tipperary and Munster.

Donnchadh Ó Cinnéide served as Munster Council Treasurer for almost 20 years as well as being a Munster delegate to the Ard-Chomhairle.

During the recent Fleadh Cheoil Thiobraid Árann 2022 he was presented with  Gradam na hÉigse in recognition of his lifetime contribution to Comhaltas.

The Bord of Chontae Thiobraid Árann also made a presentation to mark his membership and contribution over four decades.  Donnchadh was Fear an Tí for Fleadh Cheoil Thiobraid Árann 2022 held at Brú Ború in Cashel in May.

Donnchadh was an integral part of Brú Ború and one of the people involved in the centre from its very inception.

Tipp Mid West Radio was his home for over 30 years – in 2016 he published a book of poetry and songs to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising.

Donnchadh announced his retirement from Tipp Mid West Radio on July 25th.

Donnchadh will be very sadly missed by so many but we cherish and fondly remember all the great memories we have of him.

Funeral arrangements to follow.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
