Preparations are being made in the parish of Clonoulty Rossmore for the funeral of Dillon Quirke.

Mr Quirke died on Friday night after collapsing during a match in Semple Stadium.

He had been diagnosed with myocarditis in 2019 – a condition that causes inflammation of the heart muscle.

This year he captained the Senior Hurling team for Clonoulty Rossmore as they recently won a 7th consecutive West Tipp title.

Although only 24 he had secured many titles winning a Harty Cup with Thurles CBS, Minor and U21 All Ireland with Tipperary and a county senior hurling title in 2018 with Clonoulty Rossmore.

Tipperary Senior hurling team Manager Liam Cahill said in tribute that Dillon’s name would have been the first name on the teamsheet for the next intercounty campaign.

He is remembered for his outgoing and friendly nature with many sports coaches praising his approach to teammates and training.

His parents operate the highly successful Townhouse Deli business with outlets in four Tipperary Towns.

Dillon Quirke worked as an electrical estimator with H&MV engineering.

All GAA matches in the county over the weekend were cancelled as a mark of respect.

Mr Quirke was also remembered at Croke Park yesterday in a minutes silence observed before the Senior All Ireland Camogie Final.

Tributes have been paid by the President, The Taoiseach, President of the GAA, Thurles CBS,  local public representatives, community groups and GAA clubs and county boards  nationally and internationally.
