Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is supporting calls for the Government to address the rising cost of fuels – particularly petrol, diesel and home heating oil.

The Fianna Fáil Deputy is highlighting how the escalating conflict in Ukraine has the potential to drive fuel prices even higher, further impacting working people, families and businesses who are already struggling with the cost of fueling their cars and heating their homes.

A possible solution is a reduction in the levies on fuels as a short term but meaningful and direct measure to reduce prices and the impact they are having on the cost of living.

Yesterday (Thursday) Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Green Party TD Brian Leddin indicated that the Government would take such action but was unlikely to delay an increase in the Carbon Tax scheduled for May 1st.

Deputy Cahill says the increase in the cost of living is putting considerable pressure on the most vulnerable in our society with working people, families, small businesses, farmers, pensioners and those on social welfare feeling the pinch, especially in relation to the price of fuel for transport.
