A water boil notice for Carrick On Suir issued in late December could be lifted this evening according to Irish Water.

Regional Communications Lead Richard Ó hEadhra says all remedial works should be complete by today.

This will then be followed by a process of requisite testing and approvals in collaboration with the HSE.

Mr Ó hEadhra is assuring Irish Water customers that public health is the number one priority.

The works undertaken on site are in relation to the automation of the plant, the replacement of actuator valves controlling flows into the plant and the optimisation of the chemical dosing to disinfect and render the water safe for drinking purposes.

The notice which affects almost 4000 people was initially issued following a period of heavy rainfall leading to high levels of turbidity or discoloration in the raw water supply at the Linguan PWS in Carrick on Suir.
