Tipperary Town To Be Made Hub For 165km Cycle Challenge

1005

Tipperary town will be the hub for a one-of-a-kind cycle hosted by the Grass Routes CC, in association with The Bike Place.

The self guided “with benefits” Grass Routes Gran Fondo takes participants on a criss-cross 165km classics style stage event where they weave a path from rural boreen to boreen, taking in several mixed surface “sectors” on route to the finish.

The event will take place on September 19 th and is supported by a number of local businesses and Tipperary County Council. Cyclists completing the route will cover 165km but at all times they will be within a 20km radius of Tipperary town should they wish to return to base.

It’s purpose is to invite people into the locality, promote the area/style of riding and help grow these type of DIY events that give back to the cycling community. It is free for participants, the idea is to create a festival for cyclists and make Tipperary the hub of this event. Participants will follow signs or download strava or the GPxfile to their Garmin route tracking device.

The organisers’ mission is for Tipperary Town to become the Emporia of Ireland by having a national and internationally appreciated showcase event.

Over 300 participants have already registered for the event on Sepember 19 th . Starting at 8am – the majority should arrive back to the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre between 3pm and 4pm on the day.

A pop up cycling festival village will be established on the grounds of CHRC. Fiona Mangan and Stephen Clancy are participating as event ambassadors
