High Hopes For Irish Summer Tourism As Plans For Reopening Hospitality Due In 2 Weeks

Tourism Minister Catherine Martin has said the Government will develop a plan in two weeks’ time that could see the Irish tourism sector reopen in June and July.

Both Minister Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar have both expressed their optimism in recent days that the hospitality sector can begin to reopen in the coming months, as hotels and tourism accommodation, along with restaurants will be allowed to open from June onwards.

This comes on the strength of the continuing vaccination programme, which has so far seen over 1 million people receive their first jab, while the Government remains optimistic of approx. 80% of adults having received their first vaccination by July.

This could mean a very hopeful summer for domestic travel and tourism in Ireland, with the Tánaiste also hinting that he is optimistic that indoor dining and pubs could reopen at some stage over summer, if the COVID number continue to decline or remain stable, and the vaccine rollout moves ahead, as planned.
