“Slow Drive Protest” Planned For Tipperary Town

Three Tipperary Town organisations have arranged for a “Slow Drive Protest” to take place through Tipperary Town on this Friday, 4th December.

March4Tipp, Jobs4Tipp and Tipperary Town Chamber of Commerce have planned the “go slow” traffic disruption, as a form of protest against the planned roadworks scheduled to be carried out on the N24/N74 through Tipperary Town in 2021. The groups object to the proposed works, as the feel they will cause significant disruption to town, and the funding injection set aside for the works may scupper any hope of the long-awaited bypass of the town; something which the groups have been rallying for, for some time, in order to address the significant traffic issues faced by the town, generally.

In a social media post by March4Tipp, the group explained that the protest is “for 1 hour on Friday [and] aims to highlight what the town will face all day every day for 2 yrs if these roadworks go ahead”. The statement continued: “It is quite clear from the community’s reaction to date, that until a solution for the current levels of traffic is found, these roadworks cannot go ahead”.

The protest is planned to begin at the Sky Innovation Park at 3.30 p.m. and will continue through Main Street, Fr Matthew Street and James Connolly park, before finishing at the Council offices.
