A Tipperary-born NHS worker who died from Covid-19 was among more than 100 healthcare staff to have been remembered in a minute’s silence across the UK today.

Eileen Landers, who grew up in Tipperary town, worked as a cleaner at Queen’s Hospital in Burton-upon-Trent in England for 16 years.

Eileen passed away at that hospital on Sunday from Covid-19 – the third person from the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) to die after contracting the virus.

Paying tribute to Ms Landers, UHDB Trust CEO Gavin Boyle remembered Eileen as having ‘a heart of gold’:

‘The importance of the role Eileen and her colleagues perform simply cannot be overstated. Eileen will be sadly missed by the whole UHDB family, especially by the domestic teams that worked closely with her for those many years. Our thoughts and condolences are with Eileen’s family today. Eileen had a heart of gold and was the most generous person. We will all miss her greatly.”

A moment’s silence was held across the UK today for the more than 100 key workers who have died after contracting Covid-19.
