Motorists Asked To Think Twice Before Taking Up Wheelchair-Accessible Parking Spaces

623

Motorists in Tipperary town have today been asked to think again before using parking spaces designated for wheelchair and mobility aid users.

The request is being made by the Gold Star Disability Initiative and the Tipperary branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association. The campaign involves wheelchair and mobility aids being parked in regular car parking spaces, with notes like ‘Be Back in 5 Minutes’ attached to them. The purpose is to highlight the difficulties that wheelchair users encounter when trying to park their vehicle in a wheelchair accessible parking space, only to find it taken over by someone who is not entitled to do so.

In all, ten spaces were taken up for the hour-and-a-half demonstration.
