South Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has submitted a bill which he believes would if accepted create new layers of accountability for Irish Water.

In the bill, Deputy McGrath wants Irish Water to be fully subjected to the Freedom of Information Legislation.

He also wants the Minister for the Environment to create a dedicated independent ombundsman with real and meaningful powers for resolving disputes related to Irish Water and to make provision for Irish Water to be a fully public owned entity which is prohibited to enter into a public private partnership without recourse to a referendum.

In addition he is calling for Irish Water to make provision for the establishment of a free online account where people can access and monitor their levels of water consumption.
