Job losses at Dawn Fresh Foods

The crisis involving 104 job losses at Dawn Fresh Food in Fethard has been described as the first major test for Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Tom Hayes.

Commenting on the news this week that the plant is to close by the end of the year, Deputy Mattie McGrath said that the crisis which occured during the horsemeat scandal must not be replicated through a reluctant or lacklustre response by Minister Hayes and  Minister Richard Burton. He added that what is needed is direct intervention at the highest level.

In the meantime Deputy Hayes is due to meet with senior management at the company at the weekend. He also met with workers yesterday afternoon
