Independent TD Seamus Healy has described the decision by the Social Protection Minister to extend the fuel allowance sheme by a week as "welcome" but "miserly".

It was announced this morning that Minister Burton has ordered the fuel allowance scheme to be extended by a week due to the current cold snap.

The scheme was due to end on April 6th.

Commenting on the decision this morning Deputy Healy said it was welcome, but he wants the Minister to prolong the extension and to abandon plans to recoup the extra week at the end of the year.
