TD’s respond to Commission Report

Local TD's have today been responding to the details contained within the Constituency Commission Report which proposed that the two Tipperary constituencies be merged into one.

The proposals, will when implemented, result in thousands of people been transferred to the Offaly Waterford constituencies.

Commenting today Fine Gael's Noel Coonan said that the redrawing of the constituenct will be a serious challenge, while Michael Lowry has also said that some Tipperary TD's will face greater challenges than others.

Seamus Healy of South Tipperary, meanwhile has said that the Workers & Unemployed Action Group are preparing to set up clinics in North Tipperary. He added he welcomes the reduction of one seat in the county.

In terms of the effects of the Constituency Commission's report and its influence on political reform, County Limerick TD Niall Collins today said that it falls far short of the government's promises on political reform
