The Minister for Mental Health, Kathleen Lynch, has apologised for a comment she made in relation to the closure of St Michael’s psychiatric Unit.

During a meeting with service users and their families recently Minister Lynch said that the decision to close the unit was set in blood.

Speaking in the Dail during the week, South Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath raised the issue of St Michael’s adding that he did not think the comment made by the Minister was appropriate.

Minister Lynch replied that she said it “jokingly” but subsequently withdrew her remark and apologised to the service users for any offence caused.
