Tipp TDs Pivotal in Norris Oireachtas Support

County Tipperary independent TDs could become pivotal in deciding whether Senator David Norris will secure enough Oireachtas support to run for presidency.

Senator Norris is three short of the 20 signatures he needs to be able to get his name on the ballot paper.

Of the three TDs yet to announce their intentions are South Tipperary’s Mattie McGrath and North Tipperary’s Micheal Lowry.  Shane Ross is also considering his decision.

Yesterday South Tipp’s Seamus Healy said that he would not support any candidate as he did not believe any of the current hopefuls will use the presidential campaign as an effective referendum on austerity and the EU/IMF deal.

Mattie McGrath meanwhile, told Tipperary Mid West Radio that he is to meet with his supporters tonight and will announce his decision, based on their opinions, over the weekend.

Michael Lowry is also considering his options.
